Allied Psychophysiology provides disability
testing, evaluation, advocacy (504, IEP), and treatment for ADD.
Allied Psychophysiology treats
students, age 6 years old (with referral) and older, for problems that affect school
achievement and learning. The practice uses sophisticated assessment
techniques, including state-of-the-art continuous performance tests for
assessment of attention deficit disorder. We can help clients
discriminate between problems that are related to stress and adjustment,
or due to neurological deficits such as attention deficit disorder, mild
brain injury or learning disorders. Once a more precise diagnosis is
made, Allied Psychophysiology can implement and manage the treatment for
better outcomes. The practice does not prescribe medication for
children; however, the practice prescribes medication for students age 18
and older.
Attention deficit disorder is frequently
misdiagnosed leading to improper use of medication. Precise
diagnosis is the first step to addressing the underlying problem.
Learning problems, ADD, ADHD, and mild brain injury are often co-existing
or overlapping conditions. For students to approach optimal
functioning in school, the assessment must identify specific deficits and
strengths in written, spoken, auditory, motor and visual performance and
cognitive function.
Allied Psychophysiology offers
neuropsychological assessment designed specifically to address ADD and
learning issues. These assessment tools, coupled with quantitative
EEG analysis, provide a powerful adjunct to the diagnostic process, and
also are excellent documentation that can be used in the Individualized
Education Plan (IEP) or for an accommodations plan under Section 504 of
the Rehabilitation Act, thus enabling your student to receive services or
modifications in school to ensure his or her best opportunity for academic
success. Quantitative assessments and other diagnostic tools offered
at Allied Psychophysiology also are used to develop a
detailed "roadmap" for targeting your student's deficits with the most appropriate
clinical interventions,
whether they include neurotherapy or other cognitive training or
medication.
Allied Psychophysiology also treats
students with stress problems, such as test-taking anxiety and social
anxiety - including stage fright, fear of public speaking, and fear of
board work in front of the class. Treatment includes assessment and
therapy tailored to individual need to address the full range of symptoms
and problems. Stress in students impairs
academic performance, increases anxiety, affects relationships,
exacerbates physical problems (for example, headaches, stomach
aches, insomnia) and increases risk of mood disorders and substance abuse.
